Calvary Chapel of Mercer County shall seek to emphasize the spiritual unity of all true believers. It shall be the policy of this church to give preeminence to the preaching of the gospel, to studying the Word of God, and to exalting the Lord Jesus Christ.

In order to identify the church as conservative in theology, and evangelical in spirit, we set forth this general statement of fundamental beliefs.

At Calvary Chapel we believe in the fundamental doctrines of the evangelical Protestant church. For example, we believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired, without error in the original manuscripts, and the infallible rule of faith and practice.

We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existent in three separate persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that God the Father is the personal, transcendent, and sovereign creator of all things.

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious death on the Cross, was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit, ascended back to the right hand of God the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. To regenerate, sanctify, and empower for ministry all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ, that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher and Guide. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all Biblical gifts of the Spirit.

We believe that all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness of sin are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sins and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord.

We believe in the personal, visible return of Christ to earth. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal blessing of the righteous and endless suffering of the wicked.

We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis on the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.

We believe that the only basis of Christian fellowship is His agape love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christian.

We believe that marriage has been ordained by God. This church defines “marriage” as the exclusive covenantal union of one man and one woman in which such union is a lifetime commitment. A civil government’s sanction of a union will be recognized as a legitimate marriage by the church only to the extent that it is consistent with the definition of “marriage” found in these Articles.

We believe that legitimate sexual relations are exercised solely within marriage. Hence, sexual activities outside of marriage (referred to in the New Testament as “porneia”) including but not limited to, adultery, premarital sex, homosexuality, and pedophilia are inconsistent with the teaching of the Bible and the Church. Further, lascivious conduct, transgender behavior, and the creation and/or distribution and/or viewing of pornography, are incompatible with the biblical witness.

The church will observe regularly the two New Testament ordinances of water baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances are observed in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ, as Acts of love and devotion, and are not considered to be necessary for our salvation.
